A few years ago my son was on a recreational soccer team, and, by default, I became coach. (The other fathers must have been in the military too, because nobody volunteered.) Motivating the kids to pay attention and practice harder was not easy, so I turned to the methods we used at the Academy. (Punishment runs, by the way, did not prove to be successful.) I tried to emphasize the importance of what we were doing and the lessons being taught by reciting from our Contrails: "On the fields of friendly strife are sown the seeds that on other days and other fields will bear the fruits of victory". The parents were impressed, but those 10 year olds just never got it!
