A Friendly Greeting                     Gary Read

I guess my only somewhat funny Academy story (which can be published) would have to be while playing rugby in Aspen on Parent's Day fall of ‘72.  Back then, Aspen was a little less glamorous and we played their club every fall on that weekend. The pitch was in the center of town and was a park where normal people had picnics, played with children and dogs.  Needless to say, someone's big dog had left a greeting in the middle of the field. Early in the game I was tackled or somehow landed with my left hip in the greeting. I was a prop which meant Bill Murphy (CS 6) who played second row, had to put his head on my left hip to push in the scrums. He was not happy and never believed I could not have missed the dog doo when I was tackled. I will always claim my innocence.
